Crimping and tooling; Stud size

Stud size is not normally of major concern as most crimp terminals or lugs would be available in a standard range of sizes that correspond to the wire size. The fixing hole sizes are commonly shown as metric (e.g. M6) or sometimes American (e.g. ¼) screw sizes. Please see the Panduit Stud Size Chart and our own American To Metric screw Comparison Chart. The problem you may encounter is when you are using tube terminals. Because, as the name implies, Tube Terminals are made from a tube so it follows that there is a limited amount of material to flatten, to form the palm where the fixing hole is located. There is a possibility that a combination of a relatively small cable size to a large stud size would be impossible for a tube terminal. The solution would be to use a sheet terminal which can have a much larger fixing hole compared to the cable size. Examples can be found in either Un-insulated Ring Terminals or Pre-insulated Crimp Terminals. ...Another problem that may be encountered when using larger cables and tube terminals is where access to the stud is restricted. In these situations an angled lug in either 45o or 90o will solve the problem. We have angled cable lugs in these sections; Klauke R series angled lugs, Klauke F Series Angled Lugs and Klauke DIN Series Angled Lugs. Of course, crimp terminals are available in many styles to suit their destination or termination. There are pins, blades, forks and butts or splices. These can be found in our Un-insulated Crimp Terminals and Pre-insulated Crimp Terminals sections on our website. Another type is often known as the “spade”, “push-on” or “fast-on” connector. These are designed to push on to a corresponding tab, blade or terminal. The most common size is 6.3mm wide and is designed to fit on to a tab 0.8mm thick. The thing to look out for is the two smaller widths of 4.8mm and 2.4mm. These are available to suit tabs of 0.5mm and/or 0.8mm so it is very important to make sure that the correct size is selected or else they will either be too tight to fit or too loose and fall off. We offer Cembre polycarbonate Insulated Push-on Terminals and PVC Insulated Push-on Terminals. Please Contact Us if you need pricing, availability, samples or more technical information.
